Our Mission

Our goal is to insure your property is valued at its current fair market value and that everyone receives a fair assessment.  Our duty is to locate, identify and appraise all taxable property in accordance with state law and administrative procedures.  When considering whether you feel we have your property correctly assessed, ask yourself would you sell your property for the fair market value or higher as shown on your property tax bill.  If so then we have done our job.

Remember we value the property and have no control over the actual amount of tax you pay.  The taxing bodies are shown on your tax bill, as well as how much you are paying to each of them.  The amount of tax is determined by what each taxing body calculates it needs to function.

We invite you to visit the Marion County Supervisor of Assessments Office weekdays 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or call us at (618) 548-3853.  Our staff is happy to answer questions regarding the assessment process, available exemptions and the verification of property ownership. Aerial maps can be viewed and printouts can be purchased.

Property Sales Records

We maintain a property record card on every parcel in Marion County. The property record card will show the characteristics of the property being assessed. This information is also readily available by clicking on the Property Assessment Information link.  Our office is also responsible for transferring ownership once deeds are recorded with the Marion County Recorder.  Any change in mailing address must be made in writing and can be completed by clicking on the Change of Mailing Address tab, completing the form and emailing or mailing to our office.  The change can also be done in person at our office.
